Crop note: Our turnips did not size up as expected this week, so we’ve substituted fresh spinach in their place.

Share variation this week: Bi-weekly members receive green cabbage because they did not receive cabbage last week. Weekly members receive kohlrabi instead so they are not given cabbage two weeks in a row.

UNBOXING Week 7 Unboxing — July 23 & 25, 2026

Cabbage or Kohlrabi — Why the Difference?

Section titled “Cabbage or Kohlrabi — Why the Difference?”

This week’s box has one variation depending on your delivery schedule:

  • Bi-weekly members missed cabbage last week, so they receive cabbage this week.
  • Weekly members already received cabbage in Week 6, so they receive kohlrabi to maintain variety.
  • Both are members of the brassica family and work well in slaws, stir-fries, roasting, and fresh salads.
  • Cabbage is leafier and better suited to large-format slaws, wraps, soups, and grilling.
  • Kohlrabi is crisp and dense — ideal for raw sticks, grated slaw, roasting, and stir-fries.

These are the most time-sensitive items in the bin — plan to use them within the first couple of days.

CropWhy
🥗 Lettuce MixTender and ready to eat — use while crisp.
🌿 ParsleyBest flavour while fresh.
🥒 Lebanese CucumbersUse early for maximum crunch.
🍃 SpinachTender and highly perishable; refrigerate promptly and use within the first few days.

These hold a few more days but are best used before the end of the week.

CropNotes
🍃 Rainbow Swiss ChardSturdy, but best while stems and leaves remain firm.
💚 ZucchiniDelicate skin — use before it softens.
🧄 Green GarlicBulbs are sizing up and stems are becoming more fibrous — inspect before treating the whole stalk as tender.
🧅 Parade ScallionsBest crisp, though they can also be chopped and frozen.

The hardiest items in the bin — can stretch into next week if needed.

CropNotes
🫜 BeetsSeparate greens from roots; roots store well.
🥬 Green Cabbage (bi-weekly members)Stores very well refrigerated.
🟢 Kohlrabi (weekly members)Remains crisp for an extended period.

  • Beets — remove the greens immediately and refrigerate roots and greens separately.
  • Lettuce Mix — refrigerate in a sealed container or bag with a paper towel; use early.
  • Green Garlic — the bulbs are sizing up and the stems are becoming more fibrous. At this stage, begin treating it more like regular garlic: peel the bulb and use the cloves. With a sharp knife, you may still be able to finely chop and use more of the bulb, but inspect the stalk and discard any portions that feel too tough.
  • Rainbow Swiss Chard — refrigerate in a produce bag in the high-humidity crisper; cook stems slightly longer than leaves.
  • Parade Scallions — refrigerate in a damp towel or stand upright in a small amount of water.
  • Parsley — trim stems and store in a glass of water in the fridge, loosely covered, or wrap in a damp towel.
  • Zucchini — refrigerate in the crisper drawer and use mid-week.
  • Lebanese Cucumbers — refrigerate wrapped in a cloth or produce bag in the crisper.
  • Spinach — refrigerate in a sealed container or produce bag with a dry paper towel to absorb excess moisture. Keep it in the high-humidity crisper and use early.
  • Green Cabbage — refrigerate loosely wrapped in the crisper drawer.
  • Kohlrabi — remove leaves if attached and refrigerate in the crisper drawer.

Leafy greens prefer the high-humidity setting. Keep lettuce and greens bagged or contained so they don’t dry out. Roots and sturdy brassicas generally last longer once their tops are removed.
