Featured This Week
Section titled “Featured This Week”🥬 Napa Cabbage
Section titled “🥬 Napa Cabbage”Napa cabbage is one of the most underrated summer vegetables. It’s tender enough for raw salads, sturdy enough for stir-fries, excellent for kimchi, and surprisingly good cut into wedges and grilled.
Quick uses:
- Crunchy cabbage salad or slaw
- Stir-fry with onions and zucchini
- Grilled wedges
- Collard-wrap filling
- Homemade kimchi
Use These First
Section titled “Use These First”These are the most time-sensitive items in the bin — plan to use them within the first couple of days.
| Crop | Why |
|---|---|
| 🥗 Lettuce Mix | Tender and ready to eat — use early while crisp. |
| 🌿 Dill | Most flavourful while fresh — use early. |
| 🥒 Lebanese Cucumbers | Enjoy early for maximum crunch. |
Mid-Week
Section titled “Mid-Week”These hold a few more days but are best used before the end of the week.
| Crop | Notes |
|---|---|
| 🟢 Zucchini / Summer Squash | Delicate skin — use before it softens. |
| 🍃 Collard Greens | Sturdy, but best while leaves remain firm. |
| 🧅 Eclipse Onions | Fresh onions rather than fully cured storage onions. |
| 🌱 Fennel | Use the fronds early; the bulb lasts longer. |
Save for Later
Section titled “Save for Later”The hardiest items in the bin — can stretch into next week if needed.
| Crop | Notes |
|---|---|
| 🥬 Napa Cabbage | Keeps well refrigerated. |
| Beets | Separate greens from roots; roots store well. |
| ⚪ Kohlrabi | Remains crisp for an extended period in the fridge. |
Storage Tips
Section titled “Storage Tips”Item-by-item notes
Section titled “Item-by-item notes”- Napa Cabbage — refrigerate loosely wrapped in a produce bag in the crisper drawer.
- Fennel — separate fronds from bulb; refrigerate both, using fronds first.
- Beets — remove greens from roots immediately; refrigerate separately.
- Collard Greens — refrigerate in a produce bag in the high-humidity crisper drawer.
- Lettuce Mix — refrigerate in a sealed container or bag with a paper towel; use early.
- Zucchini — refrigerate in the crisper drawer; use mid-week.
- Lebanese Cucumbers — refrigerate in the crisper drawer wrapped in a cloth or produce bag.
- Eclipse Onions — because these are fresh onions rather than fully cured storage onions, refrigerate them in the crisper drawer.
- Dill — refrigerate with the stems in a small glass of water, loosely covered, or wrap it in a damp paper towel and place it in a produce bag. Use early for the best flavour.
- Kohlrabi — refrigerate in the crisper; remove leaves if attached.
Crisper note
Section titled “Crisper note”Leafy greens like collard greens, lettuce mix, and beet greens generally prefer high humidity. Vegetables sensitive to excess moisture should remain bagged or wrapped appropriately in the crisper.
